Circumnavigation of Hardin County Kentucky

Overview

Welcome to the Hardin County Perimeter Ride informational page. This is not complete and will be amended as necessary. This is not a race.

The route follows as close to the edge of Hardin County while avoiding heavily trafficked areas. The ride is 118 miles with 6,000 feet of elevation. This is less elevation but a few more miles than the HubCity Tour Century. We start at Valley Creek Baptist Church at 0700 on 11JUN. Moving anticlockwise

Route

Coming soon: RWGPS files for Garmin, Wahoo! and cue sheets for the olds

Safety

Some roads on the county edge are highly trafficked and we typically avoid them. We have designed the timing of the route to minimize contact. However, additional safety measures will be applied.

1. Working Lights

2. Color coded areas (red, orange, yellow, green) to signify the level of threat

3. When the road is designated 'Red' cyclists should use smaller groups with ample spacing between  for cars to pass between them

3. Dog contact procedures.

4. Emergency situations: spokesperson, designated medical, 911 caller(s), cell phone photographer(s), cell phone videographer(s)

Weather

The typical average for 11JUN has been 62/82

Nutrition

The elevation gain and length dictate ride times nearing 7 hours not including stops. An 0700 start will push a 1800 finish. Add in lunch break and various stops for snacks and (fingers crossed) flats, 2000 might be more accurate. There are stores at miles 21, 46 and 80.

Eat a good breakfast. Bring snacks. Drink regularly. After about 3-4 hours, the body has used all the glycogen stores and cannot convert stored energy (fat) quick enough. In addition to routine snacks (energy gels, bars, etc) bring something sugary as a reserve if your body needs it.

Volunteers

If this ride isn't for you, or your spouse would like to drive out to the edge of the county with a cooler full of drinks and snacks please let me know. There are some specific places we could position them to help replenish our supplies.

Do not do this:

Volunteers are limited. If you plan on charging ahead you are on your own. Make other arrangements for support. The SAG vehicle is concerned with the primary group and providing support for riders with mechanicals.

...or The Honeysuckle Moonstone Hardin County Perimeter Ride (The HMHCPR)

The Flower of the Month for June is the Honeysuckle. The traditional June Birthstone is Pearl, but since it is not really a stone....But Adam said it was too long and if you have to explain it, then it doesn't work.
